Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Wednesday said that federal cabinet had increased 11 seats of minorities in the National and provincial assemblies. Briefing the media about the cabinet meeting he said "As per vision and promise of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutoo and according to manifesto of Pakistan People's Party we have increased the seats of minorities in the National as well as provincial assemblies, while seats in senate have already been increased."

He said the cabinet accorded its approval to a bill for enhancement of minority seats in the National Assembly from 10 to 14. The Minister said the proposed bill if passed by the Parliament, minorities seats would be increased by one each in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while two and three seats for minorities will be increased in Punjab and Sindh, respectively.

At present Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have three seats each while minorities seats are eight and nine in Punjab and Sindh respectively. Kaira said, "The bill would soon be tabled in the parliament for the approval." He said Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf urged the Afghanistan government to refrain from unfounded accusations against Pakistan.

The Minister said the Prime Minister highly appreciated the announcement made by President Asif Ali Zardari for donating ten million dollars for the Malala Yousufzai Fund established with the purpose to educate all girls by the year 2015. "Such initiatives would defeat the forces working for ignorance, hatred and violence", he added. The Minister said that the Cabinet was informed that 85 percent of the decisions taken by the Cabinet have been implemented while the rest are under different stages of implementation. The cabinet confirmed the decisions taken by the ECC meetings held on October 23 and November 22. The cabinet also confirmed the decisions taken by Cabinet Committee on Privatisation in its meeting held on November 8.
